Airline capacity is gradually increasing in Chinese airports including in Hubei province

As the global aviation sector suffers significantly due to cancellation of flights worldwide as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the aviation sector in China is showing signs of recovery.

Airline capacity is gradually increasing in airports in China including the Hubei province.

According to media reports, all airports in the Hubei province in China, apart from Wuhan, have reopened for domestic flights giving the aviation sector in the country a boost.

The increase in airline capacity in China is based on domestic flights as most international flights are still limited by national restrictions both at home and in other parts of the world.

According to UK-based global travel data provider OAG, airline capacity around the world is, overall, down by more than a quarter. The latest report by OAG reveals a weekly worldwide decline of 28.7 percent compared to the same week last year. However, contrary to global airline capacity situation, China is witnessing an upward trend for the fourth week in a row.

Since February 17th, airline capacity in Chin begun to increase, coming in at just over 40 percent down for the first two weeks of March.

Airports such as the Enshi Xujiaping Airport and the Shiyan Airport have started operating domestic flights. Capital Airlines was the first carrier to fly out of Enshi with a flight to Hangzhou after all flights were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic

Shiyan Airport saw its first flight also on the 29th, a service conducted by Loong Air to Hangzhou. Juneyao Airlines also begun operations between Xiangyang and Shanghai Pudong on the same day.

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) is limiting the number of international flights coming in and out of China in order to prevent the rise of imported coronavirus cases in the country.
