Ministry of National Property had launched a similar public tender last year

The Chilean government will put up 49 pieces of public land on tender for renewable energy projects this year, media reports said. The announcement was made by the minister of national assets Julio Isamit in a virtual meeting with Chilean Association for Renewables and Storage (ACERA).

It seems that the government had 500 projects to tender, according to media reports. This included a plan to offer 218 in 2020. Of those properties, 49 of them were assigned for renewable energy projects.

Last January, the country’s Ministry of National Property had launched a public tender. It is reported that the tender comprised a total of 8,891 hectares of public land for the construction of a large scale PV project, in addition to other renewable energy projects. In this context, the ministry said, “Of the total properties offered, 76 percent are for sales, 22 percent for concessions and 2 percent for leases.”

In fact, a similar tender was launched in 2017 after issuing a new regulation for renewable energy projects development, media reports said. It is reported that Bienes Nacionales tendered properties during the period between 2014 and 2017. The properties could hold 7.7 GW of renewable energy capacity.
