China is taking steps to indulge in technologies that will help the country to advance its national security. The country is currently examining smartglasses that have features like face recognition and recording car registration plates. This will help the law executioners to easily confirm a suspect by checking the database.
Science and Technology Daily newspaper stated that with the aid of Skynet, the eyeglasses will capture, evaluate and compare suspected faces merely in two seconds. Skynet in China has a nationwide record of blacklisted individuals.
Apart from facial recognition, the country is trying to adopt latest and advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and big data technology to augment its national security measures.
LLVision manufactured the glasses that are powered by AI. The glasses will scan individuals, and upon finding a match, it will flag them with a red box and the wearer of the smartglasseswill be notified.
In response to growing concerns among the citizens, LLVision Chief Executive Wu Fei assured that nationals should not be anxious about their privacy being breached because the country is implementing the technology for ‘noble causes’, which is to identify and locate the law-breakers.
David Bandurski, co-director of the China Media Projectsaid: “(China’s) leadership once felt a degree of trepidation over the advancement of the internet and communication technologies.”
“It now sees them as absolutely indispensable tools of social and political control.”
