According to the Press Release, terminal 4 at John F. Kennedy International Airport welcomed the inaugural flight of Kenya Airways from Nairobi to New York City, making it the first airline in East Africa to offer a non-stop direct flight from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The route will be operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 234 seats and will have one flight daily between Nairobi and Terminal 4. Kenya Airways—the flag carrier of Kenya—will offer passengers the fastest connection from East Africa to New York and will allow connections to and from more than 40 African destinations.

“As New York City’s premiere gateway, this new flight route will provide passengers with a fast connection between New York to East Africa, while stimulating economic growth and tourism in both countries,” Roel Huinink, president and CEO of JFKIAT.

The inaugural flight was celebrated at T4 with a ribbon cutting and commemorative remarks by Huinink; Robinson Githae, Kenya ambassador to the United States; Sebastian Mikosz, Kenya Airways Group managing director and CEO; Michael Joseph, Kenya Airways chairman; and James Macharia, cabinet secretary of ministry of transport.
