The US has imposed 25% and 10% tariffs on the imports of steel and aluminium, respectively

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has asked the US Government to leave out Vietnam from the tariffs the US has imposed on the imports of steel and aluminium.

US President Donald Trump  recently entailed 25% and 10% tariffs on the imports of steel and aluminium respectively. The tariffs will come into effect on March 23.

The US imports a minor total of Vietnamese steel and aluminium products for civil constructions. They do not affect the country’s objective to ensure its national security. MoIT has highlighted these facts and stated that since the exports are not for utilised in infrastructure or any security-defence purposes, Vietnam should be excluded from the tariffs.

MoIT will continue to scrutinise the situation on behalf of Vietnam’s preeminent and legal interests, and will also continue to assess the growing trends of the partnership between the two countries.
