Billionaire tweets about purchasing the British football club after it had a disastrous 2022 kickoff

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, recently announced that he was purchasing Premier League giants Manchester United.

Elon Musk, who is active on Twitter, wrote, “I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome”.

Elon Musk’s unexpected tweet which sent shockwaves across the globe received over 220,000 “likes” in just two hours.

In a subsequent tweet, Elon Musk said that he supports the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democratic Party. Football lineup positions include the left half and right half.

Initially, people were confused whether he actually intended to buy Manchester United, one of the most recognizable football clubs in the world, or if it was just one of his random tweets.

A few hours later, Elon Musk clarified that he was just joking.

Replying to a Twitterati, who asked if he was serious about buying Manchester United, Elon Musk wrote, “No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.”

Manchester United has been struggling over the last few years with a poor show on the lush green football ground resulting in the fans demanding a change in ownership.

Elon Musk’s remark comes at a time when Manchester United, who have won the EPL title a record 20 times, had a disastrous start to the 2022–2023 season on the field, having won just one and tasting defeat in two games thus far.

Recently, Twitter sued Tesla CEO Elon Musk for violating his $44 billion deal to buy the social media site.

Musk had announced his plans to terminate the deal, citing three reasons behind his decision. Firstly, Musk’s attorneys accuse Twitter of fraudulently under-reporting the number of spam/fake accounts. Twitter replied that it did not share additional information with Musk regarding spam accounts because it feared he would build a competing platform after abandoning the acquisition.

Secondly, Musk’s lawyers alleged that the platform failed to provide the required data and information he had requested. As the contract said that Twitter must provide reasonable access to its properties, books, and records.

Lastly, Musk’s attorneys stated that Twitter did not comply with a contract term that required the company to get his consent before deviating from its ordinary course of business.
