Kuwait-based mobile telecommunication company Zain has expanded its 5G coverage to  35 cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the media reported.

According to media reports, Zain KSA has expanded its 5G coverage to Saudi cities such as Duwadimi, Hawtat Bani Tamim, Hayathim, Muzahimiyah, and Quwayiyah.

Zain KSA’s chief technology officer, Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Mufadda told the media, “We are investing heavily towards advancing Saudi Arabia’s telecom sector to surpass commercial targets to national ones, as we strive to fulfil the aspirations of our astute leadership in achieving a comprehensive digital transformation and a diversified economy as per Saudi Vision 2030.”

Zain was also the first company to deploy 5G services in the region last year. The first phase of Zain’s 5G rollout comprises 2000 towers across 20 cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This launch in Saudi Arabia follows the first 5G launch in Kuwait which is ten-fold faster than the current 4G network.

Last month the telco also revealed its financials for the first half of 2020. According to the company, it recorded a net profit of SAR 164 million on revenues of SAR 3,928 million.

The telco recorded a profit amid a time where the whole world is dealing with the coronavirus pandemic and a global recession.

This impact has been partially absorbed by SAR 125 million decrease in operating expenses (Opex) in Q2 2020 because of the company’s efficiency drive and better cost management to limit the impact of the pandemic, according to reports.
