Finnish logistics company Nurminen Logistics has launched a new rail freight service connecting Europe with China, media reports said.

The new route launched by Nurminen Logistics will connect Finland’s capital Helsinki and Chongqing in Southwest China. It also includes a branch line connecting the Norwegian town of Narvik and Chongqing through Helsinki.

The weekly rail service will carry refrigerated containers with a journey time of 11 to 14 days. One train can carry 40 45’ reefer containers, with temperatures between -25 degrees Celcius and +25 degrees Celcius monitored reliably throughout the journey.

The move can double the volume of rail freight transport between the two countries next year to at least 170 trains annually, according to Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari.

Currently, Nurminen Logistics operates a rail container route between Helsinki and Hefei in southeastern China and the new route to Chongqing will help the logistics company meet the growing demand for freight services.

Leading Chinese smart supply chain solutions and logistics services company BEST launched end-to-end cross-border logistics services with Malaysia.

To launch the new services, BEST has partnered with Cainiao Smart Logistics Network, the logistics arm of Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba. This latest move is expected to help BEST expand its footprint in Southeast Asia.

Johnny Chou, chairman and chief executive officer, BEST told the media, “The China-Malaysia ecommerce logistics service is a great example of how BEST leverages technology and innovation in order to empower our business partners and enrich the lives of consumers, with efficient delivery services. Southeast Asia has been a key focus area of BEST’s global strategy.”
