US-based technology giant Oracle has launched a regional cloud data centre in Dubai. The centre is expected to help Dubai position it as a global technological hub. The Zayed Innovation and Artificial Intelligence Hub is the first-of-its-kind in the region. It is expected to help drive the digital transformation of government and private organisations in the UAE.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, director-general of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) told the media, “The UAE has always been an attractive environment for major international projects. However, as much as it encourages prestigious companies, especially those supporting digital transformation to establish regional centres here, it is also keen to provide an environment appropriate for local creative ideas to sprout, blossom and become global companies.

“As you know, many globally successful stories have started here, and become indisputable evidence of the UAE’s digital environment. They prove that the UAE accommodates future thinkers who wish to transform their ideas into projects that benefit everyone,” he added.

Al Mansoori also highlighted the increase in demand for real-time data exchange, driven by growing need for communication between countless devices and systems. Data centres such as the one launched by Oracle will help to cope with the increasing demand.

China-based phone manufacturer and tech giant Huawei has also partnered with Moro Hub, which is a subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, to launch the multi-tenant Huawei Cloud Stack hosted in the UAE at Moro’s Green Data Centre. The platform provides a range of managed cloud services with multi-availability zones.
