Singapore-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup Sentient has secured an undisclosed amount in a fresh funding round to fuel its expansion plans, the media reported.

The funding round for Sentient was led by Japanese internet company Digital Garage Group.

Other investors who also participated in the funding round for Sentient include deep-tech accelerator Leave a Nest and ABC Dream Ventures, the corporate venture capital firm of Japanese TV broadcasting firm Asahi.

The startup is also backed by Origgin, Beenext, and Accelerate, the commercialising arm of Agency for Science, Technology, and Research.

According to Sentient, it will use the new fund to scale the platform to the global market, especially to meet the increasing demand for digitalisation from Japanese companies.

Reportedly, the startup also wants to increase its presence in Singapore and are preparing to launch their operations in Indonesia and the US.

Founder and chief executive at Sentient, Christopher Yeo told the media, “Sentient.io will continue to raise funds from the international financial markets to enable us to expand our talent in research, sales, and engineering, with a strategic focus on developing businesses in the urban living, digital economy, and next-generation wellness industries as an AI service provider.”

Established in 2017, the startup has raised around $5 million in funding so far. It offers a built AI and data platform that allows software developers to pick from its pre-trained AI microservices that can help them to create smart applications which are powered by AI and for big data owners, like telcos, manufacturers, government, and mass media companies to generate the new values from their data asset.
