Mainstream Renewable Power has achieved 30 percent progress in the first phase of the Andes Renovables project, media reports said. The Andes Renovables project comprises construction of four renewable energy parks in Chile.

These parks are estimated to generate a total of 571 MW of clean energy,. This is equal to energy consumption of 680,000 homes. Mainstream Renewable Power is the leading global developer in wind and solar power plant.

Last year, the company secured $580 million for the construction of Condor renewables complex from lenders such as Banco Santander, CaixaBank, Natixis, Societe Generale, Sumitomo Mitsui, in addition to state controlled investors including Norway’s DNB.

The construction of Condor hybrid complex is scheduled for next year, media reports said.

Manuel Tagle, General Manager of Mainstream Renewable Power for Chile and Latin America, told the media, “We are making solid progress on the construction of our four Condor portfolio assets, and we are on track to bring the Huemul portfolio of five assets to financial close this summer. We are operating in challenging times, but we are fully committed to our long-term investment plans in Chile. The country has enormous potential for the growth of renewable energy, and we are proud to be contributing to building a more sustainable future for all.”

The Condo project comprises Río Escondido solar park, Tchamma and Cerro Tigre wind farms and the Alena project.

Mainstream Renewable Power has started construction of transmission lines to connect 630 MW of wind and solar projects as part of its 1.3 GW Andes Renovables platform in Chile. Mainstream is building the transmission lines to initiate the second phase of the project.

Last year, the company raised $580 million in debt to finance the construction of phase one of the project. Andes Renovables is one of Latin America’s wind and solar generation platforms. It received financing for the project from a consortium of six banks, including CaixaBank, DNB, KfW IPEX-Bank, Natixis, SMBC, and Societe Generale.

The second phase of Andes Renovables is known as Huemul. It is reported that Huemul is one of Mainstream’s three plans to build in Chile. Mainstream’s Group Chief Executive Andy Kinsella, told the media, “Breaking ground at Mainstream’s 1.3 gigawatt Andes Renovables platform is a major milestone in our long-term commitment to bringing low cost, clean energy generation to Chile. The start of delivery of this USD$1.7 billion, three-phase project – one of the largest wind and solar power generation platforms in Latin America – is further evidence of Mainstream’s position as the world’s leading independent developer of renewables, with 9 gigawatts of assets in development across Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia.”

Huemel will comprise three wind and two solar photovoltaic built in Antofagasta, Atacama, and Los Lagos. Phase one of the project will see three wind and one solar photovoltaic project which is currently under construction, media reports said. The assets are expected to begin commercial operations in 2021 and generate sustainable electricity across Chile.
