The company has chosen sites with high wind potential. It is estimated that each wind farm will be capable of generating an average of 45 GWh annually after operations commence. The 16.8 MW projects are called Purranque 1 and Villa Alegre 1.

Each of them will comprise three interconnected wind turbines with a capacity of up to 5.6 MW, media reports said. Another German renewable firm Nordex has announced a wind turbine order of 83 MW for a project in Brazil.

It appears that Nordex will use concrete towers produced at its local factory in Areia Branca, in Rio Grande do Norte. The wind complex will have a total of 74 turbines. During the first three phases, the company has supplied 50 AW132 turbines.

Even Enel is expanding its renewable energy platforms in Chile and the US by commissioning three new wind farms. Antonio Cammisecra, CEO of Enel Green Power, said in a statement, “This commitment has also been underscored by the completion of over 400 MW of renewable plants worldwide in the first quarter of the year, allowing renewables to greatly exceed conventional generation in our portfolio both in terms of capacity and production. While prioritizing health and safety, looking ahead we will continue generating new sustainable value through our emission-free energy across the globe, in accordance with the Group’s Strategic Plan.”

The deal for the Brazil plants was carried out through local renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power for approximately $2.9 billion, according to media reports. The company said in a statement: “The transaction is aimed at freeing up resources that can finance Enel’s further renewable development in Brazil, while the company will continue plant management activities on the assets sold.”

The three assets for sale include two solar plants and one wind farm. The solar plants Nova Olinda (292 MW) is located in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Piauí and Lapa (158 MW) is situated in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Bahia. The 90 MW Cristalândia wind farm is also located in Bahia.

Nova Olinda is located in the municipality of Ribeira do Piauí. The facility comprises nearly 930,000 solar panels in an area of 690 hectares, and can generate more than 600 GWh per year.

According to the press release, all three farms have long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). The statement said, “”In line with the Group’s 2019-2021 Strategic Plan, this transaction aims to maximize and accelerate value creation by rotating assets to free up resources that can be invested in new projects, while Enel will continue operation and maintenance activities on the assets sold.”

The full transaction will be paid at closing.
