After King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s death, Rama X took the throne on Dec 1, 2016. However, his coronation is yet to take place this year.

The design of the new baht notes was released at the headquarters of The Bank of Thailand in Bangkok. The bank announced the circulation of new notes will begin on April 6.

The new notes yet to be introduced are under denominations of 20, 50 and 100 baht. On the king’s birthday on July 28, denominations of 500 and 1000 baht will be introduced.

A source from the Thai finance ministry told Bangkok Post: “The size and weight of the new circulating coins will be the same as the circulating coins under the reign of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, to be compatible with current vending machines.”

“Current coins can still be used, and the department will replace worn coins with new coins under His Majesty the King’s reign.”
