Dubai property mogul Hussain Sajwani has topped the 2022 list of Forbes richest people in the UAE for the first time after he added $300 million to his fortune. He founded the company, DAMAC properties in 2002, comes with a net worth of $2.7 billion, and has moved two places up in the UAE. Overall, he ranks sixth in the whole of the Middle East region.

He started out his business in food catering to the US military and construction giant Bechtel. According to Forbes, he is also known for extravagant marketing, sometimes even offering free Lamborghinis to apartment buyers. He also has co-branding deals with Versace and Bugatti.

The first position was previously taken by Majid Al Futtaim, who passed away last year.

Two other Emirati billionaires have also made it to the Forbes 2022 list. Mashreqbank founder Abdulla bin Ahmad Al Ghurair and family came second in the UAE and 7th in the Middle East with a cash flow of $2.6 bn.

Abdulla Al Futtaim and family with a cash flow of $2.5 bn came third and eighth in the Middle East region.

The total number of billionaires fell from 2,755 to 2,668 because of the pandemic.

Majid Al Futtaim Communities, which is also a part of Majid Al Futtaim Properties, is continuing to build its reputation as a leading real estate developer of more sustainable and eco-friendly buildings, by coming up with a green wall in Sharjah, according to media reports. Off late, green walls have emerged as an essential part of sustainable urban development.

Following the company’s vision to develop thriving and sustainable communities, which also places importance on making placemaking environments derived from the principles of well-being, Al Zahia, Sharjah’s premier lifestyle destination, recently announced the first vertical garden across Sharjah.

The vertical garden comes with lush work of art in the community spaces and is home to more than 15,000 plants of different species and spans across 160 square meters. The vertical garden also comes with a highly anticipated community clubhouse, Majid Al Futtaim Communities continues to lead the way in innovative and customer-centric destinations, reinforcing Al Zahia’s position as Sharjah’s most sought-after destination.

Hawazen Esber, Chief Executive Officer, Majid Al Futtaim Communities, told the media, “At Majid Al Futtaim our communities are about embedding local culture, creating more sustainable environments, capturing the beauty of nature while recognising the potential for healthy living. Studies show that living in a green environment brings people together and that small-scale greenery has a positive effect on social cohesion in neighbourhoods. Driven by our placemaking principles and commitment to break boundaries, Al Zahia is under way in redefining Sharjah’s living experience.”
