With its latest market launch, Fenix anticipates to provide clean energy access and financial services to 200,000 households in three years. Fenix is headquartered in Kampala. 

The company has already helped 50,000 customers to access its solar power services in Uganda, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, and Nigeria. Mozambique is a prime market for off-grid solar products. Only 27 percent of households have sustainable access to electricity. 

The country has outlined an ambitious target supported by the ProEnergia initiative to ensure 100 percent of its population has electricity access by 2030. For that reason, Fenix will focus on fulfilling requirements for those segments of the population that extensively use fossil fuel-powered lanterns such as kerosene as an alternative to electricity at their homes. 

The energy company has partnered with Vodacom and Vodafone M-Pesa South Africa to address day-to-day challenges for rural Mozambicans who have no access to affordable energy products.

With their market-leading brand, distribution network and payment platform, and Fenix’s high-quality products and excellent last-mile customer service, together we can provide clean energy and financial inclusion to millions of rural Mozambicans. Once these foundations have been established, the possibilities to bring other life-changing products, from household appliances to crop insurance, are truly endless.”

Engie is completing the acquisition of Mobisol, a pioneer in off-grid solar solutions. Mobisol operates in Tanzania, Rwanda, and Kenya.
