UAE-based Mubadala Investment Company has invested in US-based PCI Pharma, a pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical global supply chain solutions provider, the media reported.

The terms of the transactions were not disclosed.

With regard to the investment in PCI Pharma, head of Pharma & Medtech at Mubadala, Camilla Macapili Languille told the media, “Outsourced pharmaceutical services has been a key investment theme for us over the past few years, and we are excited to be partnering with one of the global leaders in this industry.

“We have been particularly impressed by the quality and depth of PCI’s management team, as well as the company’s strong execution track record, impeccable values, and distinct vision for the long-term development of their business. We have strong conviction in the company’s growth trajectory and are committed to working with Kohlberg and Partners Group to ensure their long-term success.”

The Philadelphia-headquartered company spans a global footprint of 25 facilities across six countries and employs 3,900 people worldwide.

Through the investment in PCI Pharma, Mubadala expects to improve its customer service experience and enable its customers to bring lifesaving biopharmaceutical therapies to market.

Earlier this year, Mubadala Investment Company acquired a 1.85 percent stake in India’s Reliance Jio in a deal worth $1.21 billion.

Launched in 2016, Reliance Jio has established itself as a telecom giant in India in a short spell due to its competitive pricing strategy. Backed by multibillionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio disrupted the Indian telecom sector which led to many telcos exiting the market with Vodafone on the brink of shutting down its business in India.

Renewable energy firm Masdar, which is a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Investment Company, has announced the launch of UAE’s first sustainable real estate investment Trust (REIT).

The sustainable real estate investment trust, launched by Masdar, will have an initial valuation between Dh950 million and Dh1 billion.

The sustainable real estate investment trust will be based in the Abu Dhabi General Market and will include four commercial properties in Masdar city.

According to media reports, the REIT will be launched as a ‘Qualified Investor Fund’ and will only be accessible by investors through private placement.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, chief executive at Masdar told the media, “This REIT is a significant milestone for green investment in the region, and demonstrates Masdar’s leadership in sustainable development. This is the first venture of its kind here, and offers investors an attractive option to invest in sustainable income-generating real-estate assets that are helping to contribute to a greater future for all.”

“Investors are increasingly looking for responsible investments and are evaluating companies based on specific environmental, social and governance practices criteria. “

He believes the REIT will contribute to the development of Abu Dhabi’s real estate sector and bring in greater investment from both domestic and international investors.

In 2018, Masdar also launched the region’s first green revolving credit facility.

Earlier this month, Masdar and Infinity Energy, an Egypt-based renewable energy company, have agreed to establish a joint venture company to develop solar energy and wind power projects in Africa. The new venture will be called Infinity Power.

During the same period, Masdar also signed an agreement with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to develop and operate a 200 megawatt solar plant near Baku.

Mubadala Petroleum has announced the sale of 20 percent participating interest in two offshore gas fields in Indonesia.

Premier Oil, a UK-based independent oil company, has acquired the stakes in the Andaman I and south Andaman blocks.
Mubadala Petroleum, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company, will retain the remaining 80 participating interest in the gas fields in Indonesia.

With regard to the stake sale, Dr. Bakheet Al Katheeri, chief executive at Mubadala Petroleum told the media, “The completion of this farmout is another important step for Mubadala Petroleum and for the exploration of the Andaman blocks offshore Aceh, and supports Mubadala Petroleum’s growth strategy in Indonesia.”

The government of Indonesia has also given its approval for the deal.

Premier Oil, on the other hand, owns a 70 percent participating interest in the Andaman II block. The remaining 30 percent is owned by Mubadala Petroleum.

Mubadala Petroleum has been operating in Indonesia since 2004.

Earlier this month, Mubadala Petroleum, along with Royal Dutch Shell and Chevron, was awarded exploration rights in the Red Sea by the Egyptian government.

While Chevron and Royal Dutch Shell were awarded a block each, Mubadala Petroleum will share a block with Shell.
In the month of November 2019, Mubadala Petroleum started exploration in the Manora oil field in the Gulf of Thailand, along with Tap Oil, an Australia-based independent oil company.

While Mubadala Petroleum holds a 70 percent participating interest in the oil field, Tap Oil holds the other 30 percent.

Similarly, the UAE-based oil company also signed a production sharing contract with Thailand’s PTTEP Energy Development Company. Both the companies will work together to develop the offshore Block G1/61 that contains the Erawan field.
