										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Singapore is ranked sixth-least corrupt country among 180 countries, according to </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Transparency International&#8217;s Corruption Perceptions Index for 2017.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Index rates countries on a scale of zero to 100, which indicates highly corrupt to very clean. In addition, the ranking is based on 13 surveys which include expert evaluation and opinions from the business world. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ferreira Rubio, TI chair Delia Ferreira Rubio, said, “Countries where rule of law is respected, freedom of expression is respected, freedom of the press is respected.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Singapore scored 84 on the Index second to New Zealand, which scored 89 on the Index and ranked first as the least corrupt country in the Asia-Pacific region. In the next set of high scores Australia and Hong Kong ranks 13. The low scores countries in the region is Japan at 20th rank and Taiwan at 29th rank.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau Director Wong Hong Kuan said, “With the strong mandate from the government, the CPIB will continue to fight corruption resolutely and safeguard the integrity of the Singapore public service.”</span></p>
