Total Produce has completed its full transition to deep green renewable energy sources for its business units across the UK. This transition will power its 24 business units overall. Of the units, 18 are in the UK, three in Scotland and three in Wales. This even includes central distribution centres, production facilities, regional depots and TPUK’s Head Office in Liverpool.

The UK is taking necessary steps to swifty accomplish its renewable energy transition in the coming years. It is reported that the country’s renewable energy transition outpaced fossil fuel generation for the first time last year.

Now Total has invested a lot of effort to achieve its transition. Francis McKernan, Regional Managing Director of Total Produce UK & Ireland, told the media, “In Total Produce, we are 100 percent committed to becoming an ever more sustainable business. In completing our transition to renewable electric power across our UK operations we’re building on sustainability initiatives underway right across our group and demonstrating our determination to lead our industry in the responsible marketing of the finest fresh produce from close to home and around the world.”

For over a year, renewable energy was the main source of power generation in the country, media reports said. The UK’s stable wind farms are increasing in number and have notably contributed to its renewable record last year. It is reported that nearly a quarter of the country’s electricity was generated by wind turbines last year. This is twice the share of wind power in 2015.

Global miner Anglo American has established an agreement with Brazil’s Casa dos Ventos to purchase 95 megawatts of wind power for 20 years, media reports said.

The 20-year power purchase agreement will commence in 2022. It is reported that the energy will come from the Rio de Vento facility. The facility comprises 504MW of wind farms in Rio Grande do Norte state.

Casa Dos Ventos, told the media, “This acquisition represents the largest volume of purchase of renewable energy with self-production carried out directly between a consumer and an energy generator in the country.” The company is highly regarded for corporate renewable energy contracts.

Anglo American seeks to use renewable energy sources for energy consumption by 2022. With that, it plans to reduce global carbon dioxide emissions by 30 percent by 2030.

Also, Brazil had approved 446 MW of renewable energy plants to commence operations in May. It added 493.81 MW of new capacity during the same period, with wind, solar and biomass contributing 90 percent of the energy, media reports said.

More specifically, wind parks generated 220 MW of the total energy, while biomass and solar generated 126 MW and 100 MW each. According to data from Generation Information System (SIGA), wind parks account for 9.03 percent of the country’s total installed capacity, while solar represents 16 percent of it.

UAE’s Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, also known as Masdar, is seeking renewable energy opportunities in the Republic of Armenia. For that, they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on solar energy, onshore wind and floating solar power, with a capacity of 200MW, 200MW, and 100 MW respectively.

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi and CEO of the Armenian National Interests Fund (ANIF) David Papazian signed the Armenia-Masdar renewable energy MoU, according to several media reports.

Al Ramahi said that Armenia has a conducive regulatory environment for renewable energy and is the fastest growing economy in the Eurasian Economic Union. It is, therefore, a ‘promising location’ for both solar and wind energy locations.

Armenia is ideal considering that it has 200 rivers and lakes suitable for floating solar power projects and wind speed of 8.5 metres per second for wind farm development.. The country is already a significant producer of hydroelectric power.

Chief executive of the Armenian National Interests Fund David Papazian said “This agreement is the first of many on a government-to-government level between the UAE and Armenia. Mr Al Ramahi and his team are not only our guests; we are giving them a home away from home in Armenia, as we have to Ahmad Al Sayegh, Minister of State to the UAE.”

The country is planning to generate nearly 26 percent of domestic power from renewable energy by 2025. Al Ramahi said “We look forward to supporting Armenia in the realisation of its bold sustainability targets.”
