Chinese state-owned multinational engineering company ZPMC has delivered three ship-to-shore (STS) and five rubber-tyred-gantry (RTG) cranes to the Port of Salvador in Brazil. Interestingly, the delivery was successfully made despite the ongoing pandemic.

It is reported that the machines arrived at the port after a 44-day journey. The Port of Salvador is the largest container port in the north of Brazil. It is reported that the port has been closely working with ZPMC since 1996 when it forayed into the Brazilian market.

More recently, the Port of Salvador received the first port call MSC Sixin, a local media reported. MSC Sixin is the second largest container ship in the world. To mark the first call,  an event was hosted by in the presence of the port’s leadership.

President of the Port of Barcelona Merce Conesa, honoured MSC Sixin by emphasising its “commitment to Barcelona, especially during these months in which there is a very significant decline in international maritime traffic and, consequently, cancelled calls and concentrations of maritime services.” In addition, Conese said, “The arrival of these large MSC Gülsün class ships, which ply the Jade maritime service between Europe and Asia, further consolidates the Port of Barcelona as a distribution hub for the flows of goods between both continents.”

Last year, the MSC Sixin was launched and comprises cutting-edge technologies used in maritime transport, a local media reported. It even has more than 2,000 connections for reefers.
