The brain behind this successful venture is 67-year-old Vladimir Sergeyevich Lisin, a Russian billionaire businessman. He is the chairman and majority shareholder of the company.

In 2021 Vladimir Sergeyevich Lisin was the richest man in Russia and 58th richest in the world with an estimated net worth of USD 26.6 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Recently, in order to learn about the development and implementation processes of the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualisation Consortium (SMSVC) Smart Ladle, members of the automation team from NLMK USA paid a visit to the Centre for Innovation through Visualisation and Simulation (CIVS). The visit has to do with the SMSVC Smart Ladle, a piece of software that foretells future ladle and casting process temperatures using artificial intelligence.

Different SMSVC member companies have collaborated with CIVS to create specially tailored Smart Ladle implementations for their respective locations. A better grasp of the steps involved in getting data ready and training the models that the NLMK engineers used to create the Smart Ladle piqued their curiosity. A demonstration of the Smart Ladle’s logic and code was provided to them, along with pointers on how to get raw site data ready for machine learning.

In order to forecast future behaviour in the steel refining and casting processes, an artificial intelligence tool called Smart Ladle is being developed. Industry process data and machine learning are the sources of this data.
