From January 2021 and April 2021, the cargo volume in China ports was 4897.3 million tons and the container throughput of China ports stood at an 89.5 million TEU. Both of these showed a year-on-year increase of 16.6 percent and 18.1 percent respectively, as reported by the media.
From January to December 2020, the cargo volume of Chinese ports was 14549.9 million tons, and recorded a year-on-year increase of 4.3 percent, whereas the container throughput recorded 264.3 million TEU and a year-on-year increase of 1.2 percent.
Talking about the container freight rates, the average value of the Ningbo Container Freight index (NCFI) in May was quotes 2770.2 points, which is an 18.2% increase compared to last month. The average slot utilisation between Ningbo and the North America route remained completely loaded and the overall space condition was also tight.
It was also reported that Tianjin port, China Mobile Tianjin branch, and China Mobile information and communication technology have signed an agreement. This partnership will promote 5G and Beidou technology’s application in the port sector.
It is expected that with the introduction of 5G and Beidou’s Navigation Satellite system, it has the capability to increase the efficiency in the port sector by enabling the sending and receiving accurate and real-time data along with other information from sensors.
