Latam Cargo has announced that it will dedicate its capacity at no cost for transporting Covid-19 vaccines to domestic destinations within its network. The carrier will implement this decision through its Solidarity Plane programme, and will transport the vaccines when they are readily available.

The Covid-19 vaccines will be transported to Latam’s major economies such as Brazil, Chile Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Roberto Alvo, Latam Airlines Group chief executive, told the media, “During this entire global health crisis, we have not spared efforts to collaborate with the communities of the countries where we serve through our Solidarity Plane programme. We are excited to announce that Latam’s domestic operations will be available to support the distribution totally for free, of vaccines according to what the authorities of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru may determine.”

Latam Cargo’s pharmaceutical network comprises 30 hubs globally. Of those hubs, 13 are located in Europe, five in North America and the remaining are in South America. It is reported the carrier is seeking to include four stations in China and two in Europe.

As of November, Latam Cargo had operated more than 17,000 domestic flights in its main markets in the region. With that, it offered enhanced connectivity for  customers through 91 Latin American destinations, media reports said. Since August a team of more than 20,000 staff had been planning logistics for Covid-19 vaccines. These vaccines require special temperature-controlled processes and equipment.
