Spanish logistics startup Glovo has launched its services in the city of Mombasa, Kenya. Glovo also made its intention clear to expand across all towns in Kenya.
According to Glovo, it will provide the residents in Mombasa in Kenya with fast on-demand deliveries of products such as food, groceries, drinks and courier services from different outlets within the town.
During the launch, William Benthall, Glovo’s General Manager for Kenya told the media that, “Our expansion to Mombasa was informed by our wider goal to have a presence in all the towns in the country. We are continually onboarding more partners so as to serve our customers better and offer the best delivery services in the country.”
Glovo launched in Kenya earlier in January by establishing its business in Nairobi. The startup expanded to Kitengela and Nakuru in the next few months. So far, the company has partnered with over 150 brands and franchises including retailer Carrefour and Naivas, Simbisa Africa and restaurant chain Artcaffe. Other Glovo partners such as Chicken Inn, Java House, and Naivas supermarkets already operate in Mombasa.
In Africa, Glovo currently operates in Kenya, Morocco, Egypt and Ivory Coast. Across Africa, Glovo also plans to expand its business in Ghana, Nigeria, and Tanzania in the future.
Earlier this year, the startup raised around $169 million in funding which is being used to expand its business across Africa and also its delivery portfolio. Glovo also revealed that it will use funds from its fourth round of funding to expand its delivery categories beyond food, groceries, drinks, gifts, laundry, pharmacy products, and courier services.
