Capstone Mining is in talks with Sigdo Koppers to construct a port for its Santo Domingo mine project, according to a S&P report. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between both parties to jointly study the possibility of a port development over the next 90 days.

Capstone CEO Darren Pylot told the media, “Over the past three months we have seen a surge in interest in our fully permitted Santo Domingo project. Our path forward includes a successful culmination of the strategic sales process, executing a gold stream agreement and arranging project debt financing.” It was in 2015 when Capstone obtained environmental approval for the mine and port complex. It is reported that the port will be only one of the two ports with a capacity to handle cape-size vessels in the Atacama region.

Juan Eduardo Errázuriz, Chairman at Puerto Ventanas, said in a statement, “The signing of this MOU is a great opportunity for Puerto Ventanas to work with Capstone and to contribute our expertise providing port services and railway cargo solutions. Our track record is internationally recognized in the logistic services and we are confident that we can contribute to the success of the development of Minera Santo Domingo.”
