Saudi Arabia’s connectivity with international markets will be improved by a new shipping service that will connect Jeddah Islamic Port to four Chinese cities and one Egyptian city.

The addition of the CBS shipping service through the Chinese shipping line ‘NewNew Line’ was announced by the Saudi Ports Authority, also referred to as Mawani.

This service will link Jeddah Islamic Port with the Chinese ports of Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, and Guangzhou as well as Damietta in Egypt through regular weekly voyages with a capacity of up to 4,000 standard containers.

This programme is a component of Mawani’s larger initiatives to enhance Saudi Arabia’s standing in the maritime connectivity index, increase the ports’ operational effectiveness, and fortify the Kingdom’s ties to global trade.

These initiatives are in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a major hub for international logistics and a point of convergence for the three continents.

The goal of the plan is to link the ports of the Kingdom on the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf coasts. Since the start of 2024, Mawani has expanded its offering to include 14 new services in association with significant international shipping lines.

The addition of the CBS service, which will support domestic imports and exports and improve the Kingdom’s maritime infrastructure, is a big step in the right direction.

Jeddah Islamic Port is an important logistics and commercial hub on the Red Sea coast, with 62 berths and an area of 12,5 square kilometres.

The port has two container handling stations, two general cargo terminals, two ship repair and maintenance docks, an integrated logistics village for storage and reexport, and a variety of marine service berths.

Additionally, it also has advanced facilities and specialised stations. The port is a comprehensive maritime gateway for Saudi Arabia because it also has fully functional terminals for receiving pilgrims and other visitors.
