Till October 2022, the lion’s share of security glitches has been reported from Google Chrome alone

The latest research from Atlas VPN, which accessed the data from VulDB Vulnerability Database for the year 2022, has found Google Chrome infested with security glitches, whereas Safari, Apple’s web browser has the fewest of these issues.

The study claimed that Google Chrome, with some 303 discovered and 3159 cumulative security vulnerabilities, puts the data of millions of its users under severe risk. Till October 2022, the lion’s share of security glitches has been reported from Google Chrome alone.

Mozilla Firefox comes second in the list with some 117 issues. Microsoft Edge has taken up the third position with 103 reported vulnerabilities.

Safari, which is the world’s second-largest search engine, has some 26 documented glitches this year. Its cumulative tally of security vulnerabilities stands at 1,139. Opera web browser saw zero security issues in 2022 and it has some 344 glitches in total.

Atlas said that as Google Chrome, Edge, and Opera are built on the Chromium project, they can get affected by the security flaws of the parent browser. It has also suggested that users update their search engines from time to time and be careful about phishing-related activities from cyber criminals.

As per the Atlas report, these threat actors can take advantage of Google Chrome’s security flaws to launch hacking-related codes and steal user data.

Beware of Google Chrome extensions
It’s no secret that Google Chrome is one of the most widely used web browsers across the globe. Given its popularity, Google Chrome also boasts one of the largest selections of extensions that users may use to access functions and utilities that aren’t often included with the default version of the browser.

Five Google Chrome extensions have now been identified as being vulnerable, according to research from the antivirus company McAfee.

The five Google Chrome extensions are all reportedly available on the Chrome Web Store, and one of the extensions on the list was created by Google, according to a report on McAfee’s website. More than 1.4 million people have downloaded all five of these Chrome extensions.

Netflix Party, Netflix Party 2, FlipShope – Price Tracker, Full Page Screenshot Capture, and AutoBuy Flash Sales are the five extensions that have been identified to be vulnerable.
