Citizens in many Southeast Asian countries are testing positive for Covid-19 despite being fully vaccinated with the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, according to media reports. According to Thailand’s Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, nearly 600 healthcare workers have tested positive for Covid-19 despite receiving two doses of the Sinovac vaccine.

So far, 677,348 healthcare workers in Thailand have been vaccinated with China’s Sinovac Biotech vaccine.

The health minister said in a press conference, “We don’t really have a medical or scientific basis or have the data now to establish how effective Sinovac is in terms of infection and severe illnesses on Delta.”

According to reports, thousands of healthcare workers in Indonesia are testing positive for Covid-19 too despite being vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine. So far, nearly a million healthcare workers have received the Sinovac jab in Indonesia.

It is also being reported that the Indonesian government has decided to give an additional dose of the Moderna vaccine to healthcare workers. This will result in reduced trust in the Sinovac Vaccine.

Despite concerns regarding the shot’s efficacy, Sinovac is currently the second most used Covid-19 vaccine product across the globe. Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine was the first to be approved in China for emergency use back in June 2020. So far, around 380 million doses of the vaccine have been exported across the globe to countries in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America as well as Southeast Asia.
