Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) and the General HQ of Dubai Police have announced that starting April 13 they will begin the operation of e-scooters on authorized cycling tracks in 10 districts across Dubai. More than 2000 e-scooters have been launched that are available for rent for people across the city. In the initial phase, the e-scooter will cover areas like Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Boulevard, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, DubaiInternet City, Al Rigga, 2nd of December Street, The Palm Jumeirah, and the City Walk.
This facility will be a great option for all those people who wish to bicycle.
The crown prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has also released a list of regulations in order to use this mode of transport. These rules are mentioned under Resolution Number 13 for 2022.
All those Dubai residents who wish to use the e-scooter facility need to have a valid driving license or a special permit. It is necessary that all riders go through proper training courses and along with that pass an online test in order to receive that special permit. The authorities have also stated that the e-scooter should not be driven more than 20km/hr. The rider riding the e-scooter should not be under the age of 16 and should wear helmets and reflective vests while riding them. A white headlight, red and reflective light on the rear. A horn is fixed on the steering arm (T-bar). Brakes on the front and back tyres. Lastly, the onus for the responsible operation of these scooters lies with the ride.
