September 15, 2016: Vietnam’s new-age carrier Vietjet announced the opening of a new international route linking Hong Kong with Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). The route will commence operations on 9 December, 2016.

His Excellency, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Vietnam Prime Minister and Her Excellency, Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration of Hong Kong SAR, leaders of Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department, high-ranking dignities from Vietnam and Vietjet leaders attended the announcement ceremony in Hong Kong.

The new route is Vietjet’s first frequent service to Hong Kong, which increases Vietjet’s total frequent routes between Vietnam and China to nine. The airline currently boasts a total of 53 routes, 18 of which are international.

With a flight time of 2 hours 45 minutes per leg, the new route will depart daily from Hong Kong at 19:20 (local time) and arrive at 21:05. The return leg from Ho Chi Minh City will take off at 14:35 (local time) and land at Hong Kong International Airport at 18:20. Sales for the Hong Kong-Ho Chi Minh City route have already opened at www.vietjetair.com.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietjet President & CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, said: “Asia is poised to be the biggest aviation market in the world and more than 50% of the world’s population lives within a radius of 2,500 miles from Vietjet’s current bases. Vietjet is well-positioned to serve quality and creative aviation services across our primary international network while also connecting key regional destinations with each other, including Hong Kong. At Vietjet our mission is to make air travel accessible to everyone and a more popular means of transportation. We believe that our new Ho Chi Minh City – Hong Kong route will better connect these two dynamic financial hubs and tourism destinations. In doing so, Vietjet is proud to play its part in boosting integration, tourism and trade development across the globe and become one of the world’s favourite airlines.”

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is Vietnam’s largest city with more than 10 million residents and the country’s main hub for business, fashion, retail, entertainment and culture. This dynamic, modern and typically eastern city is known to be “the new destination of the new millennium”, and looking to attract millions of tourists from around the world.
