IBM, AMD develop multi-year joint agreement to deepen AI

This will allow them to build open-source software and open system architectures

Technology giants IBM and AMD have established a multi-year joint development agreement to deepen artificial intelligence offerings in both companies. The joint development agreement between both tech companies will allow them to build open-source software and open system architectures.

AMD executive vice president and CTO Mark Papermaster, told the media, “This agreement between AMD and IBM aligns well with our long-standing commitment to collaborating with leaders in the industry. AMD is excited to extend our work with IBM on AI, accelerating data centre workloads, and improving security across the cloud.”

Close engagement with researchers of IBM and AMD on joint development activities is underway. It is reported that IBM is deeply committed to provide choice, agility and security in its hybrid cloud offerings for clients. This will be done through research and scaling of advanced technologies, media reports said.

In this context, Dario Gil, Director of IBM Research, told the media, “The commitment of AMD to technological innovation aligns with our mission to develop and accelerate the adoption of the hybrid cloud to help connect, secure and power our digital world.”

It seems that confidential computing can potentially remove barriers to hybrid cloud adoption and prevent hackers or malicious actors from accessing sensitive information. This includes in the event of a break-in. The adoption of hybrid cloud is for regulated businesses or organisations concerned about unauthorised third-party access to data, media reports said. The regulated businesses include finance, healthcare and insurance.
