The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently granted Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s brand-new premium airline, “RX”, as an airline designator code.

The announcement was made at the 79th IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit, held in Istanbul. The event also marked Riyadh Air’s first public appearance since its launch. Tony Douglas, CEO, and an official delegation from the airline were in attendance.

By 2030, Riyadh Air’s primary hub and operations will be connecting the capital of the Kingdom to more than 100 locations worldwide. Riyadh Air will be a full-service, digitally native airline leading the way in new technology and innovations while providing customers with genuine, cordial Saudi hospitality.

Riyadh Air has been developed to assist Saudi Arabia’s ‘National Aviation Strategy’ and the more extensive ‘National Transport and Logistics Strategy’, which strive to fulfil the Kingdom’s ‘Vision 2030’ goals, with operations set to begin in early 2025.

By connecting the three continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe, Riyadh Air will use the Kingdom’s strategic location, promote economic growth and diversification, and provide more than 200,000 direct and indirect job possibilities.

Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas said, “It has been an absolute pleasure to be on the ground at the IATA AGM.”

The Riyadh Air team has had the opportunity to meet with experts and industry stakeholders to discuss safe, effective, and technologically cutting-edge themes in the international aviation business.

“We are happy to announce that we have secured “RX” as our IATA code, displayed on every touchpoint our guests see while they fly with us. The code expresses our desire to be a digitally-led airline that connects cutting-edge technology and innovation,” the official stated further.

“We are thrilled for our customers to be able to fly to more than 100 destinations with our code on their luggage tags, booking paperwork, and digital services, thanks to Riyadh Air’s achievement of another significant milestone in the direction of its operations in 2025. The travel business and the commercial organization of passenger and freight air transportation are essential components of IATA codes,” he remarked.

“They are crucial for identifying an airline, making international reservations, and helping ground service workers at airports in their work. Since the airline’s March 2023 launch, over 300,000 job applications from people in 182 countries have been submitted through the airline’s careers website,” Tony Douglas concluded.
