Fiberhost and Inea acquisition deal will give T-Mobile Polska more than 300,000 customers and access to a network passing 1.4 million homes

Deutsche Telekom, Europe’s largest telecommunications provider by revenue, has agreed to acquire Polish fibre network operator Fiberhost and broadband and television provider Inea from Macquarie Asset Management for 1 billion euros (USD 1.16 billion), strengthening its push to turn T-Mobile Polska into a fully converged telecom.

The transaction, announced on Monday (August 17), will give T-Mobile Polska more than 300,000 Inea customers and access to Fiberhost’s fibre network, which passes more than 1.4 million homes. The acquisition’s completion is expected by the end of 2026, subject to customary Polish competition approvals.

“Together, the businesses will be better positioned to offer a high-quality convergent proposition and compete more effectively with operators that already own substantial fixed infrastructure to the benefit of Polish customers. The acquisition also strengthens T-Mobile Polska’s role as an investor in critical infrastructure supporting Poland’s digitalisation,” said Deutsche Telekom and T-Mobile Polska.

The deal represents a major expansion of Deutsche Telekom’s fixed-line footprint in Poland, where its local business has been increasing its broadband presence alongside its established mobile operations. Deutsche Telekom said the acquisition would accelerate T-Mobile Polska’s growth by combining its mobile network and customer base with fixed broadband infrastructure and television services.

Inea provides fibre internet, television, fixed and mobile telephony, as well as services for businesses and data centres. The company says it serves more than 300,000 individual customers and nearly 3,000 schools and has been expanding its fibre reach.

Fiberhost, meanwhile, operates as a wholesale fibre infrastructure provider, offering network access to internet service providers. Poland’s telecoms regulator has previously identified Fiberhost as one of the country’s major open-access wholesale operators. At the end of 2022, its network covered about 9,800 localities and 769,000 buildings, according to the Office of Electronic Communications.

The businesses have also attracted significant infrastructure investment under Macquarie ownership. In 2024, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development provided a PLN 450 million (100 million euro) sustainability-linked loan to support Fiberhost’s network expansion and modernisation, as well as Inea’s commercial development. Part of the financing aimed to extend fibre services to rural and peri-urban areas.

The acquisition also builds on an existing relationship between T-Mobile Polska and Inea. The companies signed agreements in 2019 and 2020 allowing T-Mobile to use Inea’s fibre network, expanding its fixed broadband reach by hundreds of thousands of households.

For Deutsche Telekom, the purchase reflects a broader European strategy of expanding high-speed fixed networks and bundling mobile, broadband and entertainment services. The company said its European broadband business reached 7.4 million customers at the end of 2025, while 11.3 million households had access to its gigabit-capable fibre network.

Dominique Leroy, CEO Europe, Deutsche Telekom AG, commented on the acquisition, “This is an important milestone in T-Mobile Polska’s continuous growth story. By bringing together strong mobile and fibre capabilities, we are creating an even better foundation for simple, reliable services for our customers. At the same time, it will allow T-Mobile Polska to extend its contribution to the digitalisation of Poland and its economy. Investments like this matter beyond one market. Strong digital infrastructure is essential for Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and future growth. I am proud that Deutsche Telekom continues to play an active role in making that happen.”

“We are opening a new chapter in T-Mobile Polska’s journey. We will now complement our award-winning mobile network, nationwide backbone, data centres, and fibre infrastructure with our own fibre-to-the-home network, reaching 1.4 million households. Owning an FTTH network will allow us to further develop our already successful portfolio of convergent products. Technological excellence, combined with our strong customer service, our key differentiators in the market, will strengthen our operations in Poland and help us build an even more attractive, quality-driven portfolio for both business and private customers at a greater scale,” said T-Mobile Polska CEO Andreas Maierhofer.

Macquarie Asset Management said it was pleased with the partnership between the two businesses and expressed confidence that they would continue developing under Deutsche Telekom’s ownership and expanding Poland’s digital infrastructure base.

“For over 20 years, Poland has been a key market for Macquarie, from the Gdansk deepwater container terminal to Fiberhost and INEA. Over the past eight years we have partnered with management to support the development of Fiberhost and INEA, helping to create one of Poland’s leading fibre infrastructure platforms. Together, we expanded network coverage, increased wholesale access, and improved connectivity for communities and businesses across the country. We thank both management teams for their partnership and look forward to seeing both businesses continue to build on this strong foundation under Deutsche Telekom’s stewardship. We are proud to have supported development of important infrastructure, helping to drive Polish economic growth and positive societal impact,” Cord Von Lewinski, Macquarie’s Managing Director, said.
