WTTC report predicts good days ahead for the tourism sector

Australians topping the tourism spending chart is not surprising as the country had harsh COVID restrictions, curbing international travel since 2020

The latest report by YouGov for World Travel and Tourism Council says that over 63% of people, who participated in the survey, are planning to undertake a foreign trip in 2023.

This study shows that the appetite for the overseas travel has reached its highest point since the start of the COVID pandemic. WTTC questioned some 26,000 travellers across 25 places.

The report also tells that more than a quarter (27%) of individuals planning a minimum of three leisurely trips in the next 12 months.

Australians will be the world’s largest spenders, in terms of having foreign trips in the next year. Tourists from Canada, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines too will spend a handsome amount of money.

The report was released ahead of the 22nd annual global summit of WTTC in Riyadh. Leaders from the tourism sector, government representatives, and international speakers will attend the three-day event, held under the theme called “Travel for a better future”.

Coming back to the WTTC survey, two-thirds of the participants reiterated their preference for sustainable travel, while 45% said that they would go with tourism brands that are socially and environmentally responsible.

YouGov ‘global tracker’ also said that the attractiveness of Saudi Arabia as a travel destination has continued to grow, along with Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Thailand.

“This global survey shows that international travel is back. As we kick off our Global Summit in Riyadh bringing together global travel leaders and governments from around the world, travellers are getting ready to explore the world again,” Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO informed the media.

“The results of this global survey also show the growing importance of sustainable travel amongst consumers,” Julia Simpson added further.
