Cyberwarfare has been a prelude to the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war and continues to remain in the arena of conflict besides traditional warfare between armed tanks and missiles.

Well ahead of the fully-coordinated multi-sectoral incursion into Ukrainian territory by the Russian military, Ukraine was the victim of Russian cyber aggression with multiple government websites blacked out and several other notable websites compromised including that of two private banks.

On expected lines, none of the attacks were officially acknowledged by the Russians but US National Security Agency and their British counterparts traced back the digital footprint of the aggressors to Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate.

But even then the attacks have been far less lethal than what the Russians have previously showcased.

Many analysts are unsure how and why Russia, known for its menacing cyber power, has not unleashed its strength in its armoury in this regard.
